Predictions shows chances as percentages by default. If you are used to betting odds, a switch at the top of the page rewrites every number on it as American odds or decimal odds. It changes how the numbers are written, not what they mean.

#Change the format

  1. Open any Predictions page, such as the overview.
  2. Find the three buttons at the top right of the page: %, US and Dec.
  3. Select US for American odds or Dec for decimal odds. Select % to go back to percentages.
The headline questions with the odds format switched to US, so each chance is written as American odds

With US selected, each chance is written as American odds. The headline tiles show -614 where they showed 86%.

    1. 1Choose %, US or Dec
    2. 2The same chance as American odds

Every chance on the page changes: the cards, the lists, the tables, the headline tiles and the numbers in the chart's pop-up box. Rest the pointer on a changed number to see the chance in percent.

On a market's own page, the Pays column also lists the same odds in all three forms for each outcome. Rest the pointer on a figure there to read them.

#What the formats mean

Chance American odds Decimal odds What $1 pays
25% +300 4.00 $4.00
50% -100 2.00 $2.00
62% -163 1.61 $1.61
90% -900 1.11 $1.11
  • American odds write a likelier outcome as a minus number and an unlikely one as a plus number. -163 means a $163 stake returns $100 more if it happens. +300 means a $100 stake returns $300 more. A chance of 50% is -100.
  • Decimal odds are what $1 returns in all, stake included. 1.61 means $1 returns $1.61, and 4.00 means $1 returns $4.00. They are 1 divided by the chance.

Odds written this way are the venue's price, as read on the page. They do not include any fee, and they may be minutes old.

#Common questions

Does the switch change the money figures?

No. Dollars traded, the money at stake and prices of stocks stay as they are. Only chances change.

Why do some numbers stay as percentages?

Changes in the last day are always points, such as ▲ 5, and a figure that is not a chance, such as a median price, is shown as itself. Only chances are rewritten.

Is American odds advice to bet at those odds?

No. The odds are a different way of writing the market's chance. Nothing on Predictions is betting, financial or investment advice.

Where is the switch on my phone?

On a phone the three buttons sit directly under the page's introduction, with the note about when prices were read. They appear once the page has finished loading.
